My camera battery died before I was satisfied with all the pictures I wanted to take, so I may go back! But here are some pics of the inside of the courtyard. While I was there, a mailman delivered a package to one of the sliding doors (with the rice paper). So I think people live in there! 
A bell---maybe they used to ring it as an alarm? I don't know...but it was HUGE.
